What is the timing belt?
This is a rubber belt located in the engine compartment behind the drive belts. This piece is there to keep the crankshaft in sync with the camshaft(s), ensuring the proper timing and operation of the engine valves. Of course this is all important to the running quality of your engine.
How do I know that it needs to be replaced?
Normally when the rubber in your belts starts to break down or split, you will hear a squeaking or squealing noise coming from the engine compartment. This could be a sign that your belts are in need of replacement. If your car will not start it could be a sign of your timing belt being damaged or in need of replacement.
I’ve heard of other maintenance be done with replacing timing belts. Is this true?
It’s always best to follow your manufacturer’s suggested maintenance schedule. With most cars it’s suggested you also replace other parts like the water pump and pulleys as well. At Orlando Import Auto Specialist we specialize in timing belt repairs and can help you replace any other suggested parts that go along with your manufacturer’s suggested maintenance schedule.
